What is an Awareness Campaign?

There's non-profit campaigns we support in majorities and as individuals. But most of us sponsor non-profits that have an obvious end goal or an idea at which your financial contributions will directly help. (finding a cure, purchasing items for those in need...etc.).

So, what about those campaigns that want to bring "awareness" to an issue?

I've had this come up recently with my work on The Big EQ Campaign. It's a campaign that seeks to bring awareness to Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) as well as the important impact it has in schools and professional work environments.

And what is the end goal of that? What would donated funds be used towards?

In an awareness campaign the funds are used for various reasons. First off, in any set up institution, there are full-time workers who need to be compensated. Now this doesn't mean that these people are raking in salaries of ludicrous amounts of dollars and travelling the world and living a grandiose live. That's not to say that doesn't happen in larger conglomerate like non-profits, but in true independent grass-roots non-profits, these are people who are dedicating 40+ hours a week to the cause under a specific title and with specific duties who are being compensated for it.

After that, the funds go towards items and places such as:

  • Academic Scholarships for those educating and demonstrating talent that aligns with the cause.
  • Marketing and publishing work as well as maintenance work on physical and digital homes, professional insight on legal amendments and proposals, scientific studies and research...etc.
  • Assistance grants for independent workers in the field. Supplying them with assistance in tools, education, commuting and more.
  • Funding events of various calibers to increase awareness and profits
  • and more...etc.
Awareness campaigns really just want to get you to think about something you may not know much about at first and get you enthralled, so much so that you share it with others and if possible donate monetary funds or your time to advance the campaign and meet the goal of widespread acknowledgement and implementation of the issue at hand!
